Bus Shelters - Replacements and Additions

Two years ago the Parish Council identified that the bus shelters throughout the Parish were rapidly approaching the end of their useful life. As this council encourages the greater use of public transport it was necessary to undertake a review to establish the best course of action. Other agencies were contacted including the local bus operator and it was determined that a replacement programme should be implemented.

It was important that a uniformed approach was taken, therefore all the new shelters will be of the same design and installed with the same orientation coupled with raised kerbs which will improve user access. In addition, each shelter will be capable of hosting the Real Time Information service which provides users with updates as to when the next bus is due, the Council is working with the Borough Council to realise this ambition.

The programme also includes the removal of a shelter without a replacement. After due consideration it was decided that the Wessex Way shelter (opposite Lock Lane) had insufficient space to ensure that bus users and pedestrians using the footway could be accomodated. The bus stop itself will remain albeit slightly repositioned to improve overall

Every bus stop was surveyed to ascertain if a shelter installation would provide a user benefit and locations were identified. Therefore two further shelters will be installed, one adjacent to the motorway underpass on Cox Green Road and the other on Farmers Way.

The removal of the existing shelters will take place at the beginning of June and the new shelters will be installed in mid June.
